Circulating Gender in the Global Enlightenment: Ideas, Networks, Agencies (CIRGEN)

Organised by Ester García Moscardó (Universitat de València) and Elena Serrano (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)

Chaired by Elena Serrano (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)

Ester García Moscardó and Elena Serrano have organised the seminar «Experiencias viajeras: género, emociones y política entre Europa y América (siglos XVIII-XIX)» with the the following guest speakers: Javier Sadarangani Leiva (Universität Hamburg), Francesca Antonelli (Universitat de València) and Pablo Hernández Sau (Universitat Pompeu Fabra). Looking through the lens of the history of emotions and gender studies, they will examine primary sources such as letters and travel journals in a context of global mobility during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In so doing, they will reflect upon the relevance of these sources in the construction of identities; the history of science; and the study of mobility and conflict within the political organization and bureaucracy of the Spanish Bourbon empire and its territories on a global scale.

This seminar session will take place next Wednesday, 22 February, starting at 10:00 CET, both in-person (aula Alfons Cucó, Facultat de Geografia i Història, Universitat de València) and online (contact Ester.Garcia-Moscardo@uv.es for Zoom link).
