Circulating Gender in the Global Enlightenment: Ideas, Networks, Agencies (CIRGEN)

At CIRGEN, we are pleased to count on the intellectual collaboration of some colleagues from the Universitat de València, among others:

Xavier Andreu-Miralles (UV)

Xavier Andreu Miralles

Xavier Andreu-Miralles holds a PhD in Modern History from the Universitat de València. He has specialized in the cultural history of 19th century Spanish nationalism, which he has analysed from a transnational perspective. In his doctoral dissertation he studied the influence of the romantic image of Spain on the Spanish nation-building process. He has also studied the articulation of nation and other political and social identities, particularly those of gender.
He is the author of El descubrimiento de España. Mito romántico e identidad nacional, Barcelona, Taurus, 2016.

Nuria Soriano-Muñoz (UV)

Nuria Soriano Muñoz

Nuria Soriano Muñoz holds a PhD in Modern History from the University of Valencia (2017). She is a specialist in 18th century cultural history and in the field of historiography and the public uses of History. Her doctoral thesis examined the construction of the different political meanings attributed to the figures of Hernán Cortés and Bartolomé de Las Casas. In doing so, she addressed their political, social and emotional role, understanding both characters as metaphors of the Spanish empire, nation and notions of civilization and barbarism. She has studied the conformation of the historical discourse in the Enlightenment, as well as the debates on the representations of the American and medieval past of Spain produced at the end of the Old Regime. She is the author of Bartolomé de las Casas, un español contra España (Valencia, Alfons el Magnànim, 2015).
